If you’re in need of a tablet and don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars for the Apple iPad, check out the Google Nexus 7.

n7

At 10″, with a quad-core CPU and 1280×800 display, it’s really more of a direct competitor to the Kindle Fire than anything else. The N7 is a well-built, great looking handheld that packs a punch. It feels great in the hands thanks to the rear texture, and the screen looks great and bright, with a good viewing angle (better than most tabs I’ve seen). The touch screen is responsive, gaming feels and looks great and hi-def movies look really crisp.

It does lack in a few areas though. One of the downsides is the lack of expandable memory – a big one if you’re planning to use it as a mobile book/comic/video viewer. At 16GB you’re going to need to be careful of space limitations. Although there is a 1.2 mega-pixel front camera, there is no rear cam, which may or may not deter some users. And finally there’s no HDMI out, which, again, is a feature that only power users should miss.

Bottom line? At about $200 for the 16GB model, it’s a good price point for a solid tablet. And that’s what makes it a great addition to the 2012 Biff Bam Pop! Holiday Gift Guide!
